Hey so I’ve never heard of Joey Landreth (or his previous band before going solo, The Bros. Landreth) before today, but I had a performance of his pop up on a YouTube channel I subscribe to and the song he was performing is called “Forgiveness” so, naturally, I wanted to check it out.
And boy, am I glad I did! I think I’ve found a new favorite artist (even if he is Canadian, lol). I searched for more of his music and found cool song after cool song and so many with Christian themes, though I can’t find any bio or information that specifically says he’s a Christian, which means that he’s not lumped into the “Christian” music genre, and because of that his scope will be much broader and his fan base will be will much more diverse than Christian specific artists. Which, I believe is better – not to knock on “Christian artists”, but Christians in the secular music world have a much larger mission field to play with (or more accurately, to play to.).
Landreth’s music style is like a bluesy, folky, alternative country style – kinda like John Mayer meets Jack Johnson meets The Avett Brothers.
Take a couple minutes out of your day to discover some new music and to perhaps discover something God is saying to you through this songwriter.
Have a listen to this song, “Forgiveness.” If this isn’t a prayer put to music (a modern day Psalm) I don’t know what is!
Feel free to comment on the song; what you think of it, what moves you about it, what it reminds you of biblically, etc. After listening, and meditating on passages and images that come to your mind, read and prayerfully reflect on these passages – Psalm 37: 22-28; Psalm 51:1-12; Matthew 14:22-33.
