Intercession: Southwest Christchurch

Hi all!

Continuing our series on Jeremiah, this week we turn to chapter 32. Jeremiah goes out to buy a piece of land. Exciting.

But actually, it’s a really strange thing to do because the land of Judah is on the verge of being overrun by the Babylonian Empire. Any bought land won’t be worth much then!

However, Jeremiah loves to prophesy through symbols and prophetic action. His purchasing a piece of land was claiming that place of God — as if he were saying, “Yes, it’s technically under Babylonian control, but actually there’s a much deeper reality going on here. God’s promise of life and restoration sits over this place.”hornby

I wonder, what if we were to treat our community like that? …Hornby, West Melton, Rolly, Halkett… at times these places we live in seem so foreign to God’s Kingdom. But that doesn’t mean they’re lost to God. Or that they’re not covered by God’s promise of life and restoration. Or that God’s Spirit isn’t at work in significant (though maybe unseen) ways.

So to help us start to view our wider community in this way, I encourage you to pray for it. Pray for the people suffering under poverty, abuse, loneliness, illness. Pray for the well-off to have compassion. Pray for the Living Room to be a community that gives back to our wider communities — in love and hope.

Peace,

Jordan
